Challenges – Shea Butter Processing

1. The production of   200 metric tons (MT) of premium organic Shea butter per year, women use approximately: 

a.  1,246,400 litters of water
b.  900 MT of stacked firewood
c.  388 MT of organic waste by –  Products  (Shea Nut shell  and  Cake waste).


  1. Emissions CO2 per MT Shea butter
    a. Roasting: 717 kg emissions CO2
    b. Boiling: 852 kg emissions CO2
    c. Parboiling: 4680 kg emissions CO2


3. Women’s health
a. Smoke: inhalation, eye and/or nose complaints
b. Chopping firewood and  lift heavy logs.
